Answered Prayers: A Car Donation Brings Joy to an 80-Year-Old Widow

Thanks to the generosity of the Mustard Seed Men and parishioners of Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, a vehicle was recently donated to Alicia, a devoted parishioner of St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock.

Alicia, an 80-year-old widow, has been a faithful member of St. William’s for over 40 years. She is described by her parish community—and by Father Dean—as a “living saint.” Even now, she continues to clean a home once a week to help make ends meet. When presented with the car, Alicia’s heart overflowed with gratitude. With tears in her eyes, she said, “Thank you, God, for sending this wonderful ministry from Saint John Neumann.”

The blessing of this gift was made even more special as her longtime parish priest, Msgr. Louis Pavlicek, led everyone in prayer and offered a blessing over the car.

Carrie's Journey to Independence

"I'm incredibly grateful for the Mustard Seed Men and their support; they've truly changed my life." – In May, the Mustard Seed Men (MSM) from St. John Neumann Catholic Church helped Carrie, a single mother, by providing her with a Hyundai Eltra. Before this, she struggled with a predatory loan on her previous car, making daily life difficult. With reliable transportation from MSM’s Work Wheels program, Carrie can now secure stable employment and ensure a better future for her family. Inspired by the scripture, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move mountains" (Matthew 17:20). MSM has made a significant difference in Carrie's life, strengthening her faith in God's provision MSM partners with the John Paul II Life Center to support young mothers in need of vehicles.

Recently, Carrie received her car adorned with a pink bow, symbolizing a hopeful new chapter in her life. Work Wheels, a Catholic charity linked to the Mustard Seed, provides safe transportation to those in need across the tri-county region.

We believe in fresh starts through dependable vehicles and the power of community support. Support Work Wheels' mission by donating a vehicle or contributing financially at our donations page. Together, we can create lasting change.

From North Dakota to Austin: One Car, Many Blessings

When Unique and her four children relocated to Austin, she brought with her an unshakable commitment to building a better future for her family. But without a reliable vehicle, even the most basic parts of daily life—getting to work, school, appointments, or simply running errands—became overwhelming hurdles.

That all changed in late September.

Through a beautiful act of generosity and partnership, Unique was gifted a gently used Hyundai Santa Fe—thanks to the Mustard Seed Men ministry at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, the parishioners who support it, and the John Paul II Life Center. The vehicle had come all the way from North Dakota, where a generous family, looking to bless someone in need, reached out to Work Wheels with the hope that their car could serve a new purpose. It did.

At a heartfelt blessing ceremony outside the church, Father Luan prayed over the vehicle, asking for safety and protection for all who would travel in it. Unique, standing alongside her children, shared what the moment meant to her:

“Thank you to the Mustard Seed Men and the John Paul II Life Center for this most generous and life-changing gift I have ever received.”

This gift wasn’t just a car. It was peace of mind. It was stability. It was a bridge to opportunity—for a mother who gives everything to her children and now has the support she needs to keep moving forward.

At Work Wheels, we are continually inspired by the way our community comes together to support one another in times of need. Every donated vehicle carries a story—and in the hands of someone like Unique, that story becomes one of transformation, resilience, and hope.

Jose & Kate: From Stage Rigs to New Beginnings

When Jose and Kate first met on a concert job site in Ohio, it felt like something out of a love story. Jose was working as an Entertainment Industry Rigger—an incredibly demanding job that requires not just skill and precision, but courage. He had spent years building temporary steel structures for some of the biggest names in music, often suspended hundreds of feet in the air. Kate was working as an Artist Relations Porter at the same venue. Their connection was instant and genuine.

Soon, life brought them to Austin, TX, full of hope and dreams for the future. But things took a heartbreaking turn. Kate experienced harassment and domestic violence from someone she once trusted—a former roommate and coworker. She lost her job and her housing all at once. Afraid of burdening Jose, she kept the truth to herself until it could no longer be hidden. Jose didn’t hesitate—he asked her to move in, chose to stay local for work to protect and support her, and did everything he could to help her heal.

But staying local meant fewer jobs. Touring season ended. Gigs dried up. Eventually, they lost their housing and were forced to live out of their car during the cold winter months. Still, Kate stayed by Jose’s side—insisting they go through this together.

When the event season picked back up, Jose’s work began to return. He even helped Kate get her foot in the door with two production companies. They began rebuilding. With time, hard work, and persistence, they found a place to live again. Their dog, Pug Cobre, had a home. Things were finally looking up.

Then their only car broke down on the way home from a job in San Antonio.

Without reliable transportation, everything came to a halt. The jobs that once offered stability became impossible to reach. The touring contracts that once promised growth became out of reach. They were stuck again, and the timing couldn’t have been harder—because that’s when they learned they were expecting a baby girl.

Jose and Kate’s story is one of perseverance, love, and unwavering commitment. Even in the midst of uncertainty, they kept going—trusting in God, in each other, and in the promise of a better future.

Through the generosity of WorkWheels and its donors, Jose and Kate received a reliable vehicle. For them, this wasn’t just transportation—it was restoration. It meant Jose could work again. Kate could attend prenatal appointments. They could prepare for the arrival of their daughter with dignity and hope.

“This gift didn’t just get us back to work,” Jose says. “It gave us a path forward as a family.”

We’re honored to be a small part of their journey—and we know the road ahead holds something beautiful.
