WHY DONATE?

Recent studies have shown that rising from poverty in America is nearly impossible without access to a reliable vehicle. This shouldn't prove surprising. Imagine how difficult your own life would be if you didn't have access to private transportation - how would you get to work, buy and then carry groceries, or visit the doctor? Life without a car is especially challenging in cities like Austin, in which public transportation is regrettably underdeveloped. For members of our community, though, even those who can't afford a car still can't afford to go without one.

Even when a person can’t afford a car, it is still possible to get one. Many people with very poor credit, or none, can purchase a vehicle from a “Buy Here, Pay Here’ used car lot. Even assuming the buyer can make the payments, the result could be paying triple the actual value of the vehicle. More likely, however, is the eventual inability to pay off the loan when unemployment, the ever-rising cost of housing, or unexpected medical bills render a person unable to keep up. When the vehicle is repossessed, the person falls deeper into the financial pit, with no visible means of climbing out.

Your vehicle donation can help lift a person out of poverty and away from the jaws of predatory lenders into a more peaceful and productive existence. We helped a client get out of a car loan which carried a 48% interest rate, and into a Work Wheels vehicle.

We rigorously screen applicants for genuine needs and predicted positive outcomes. You can rest securely in the knowledge that your donation will be going to a resident who needs a vehicle to get to a job or to maintain one and become a viable member of the community.

You have a “gently used” older vehicle that you wish to replace. Instead of selling it for a fraction of its worth, please consider donating it to Work Wheels. This Mustard Seed Men ministry is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which means any money or vehicle donation to the Work Wheels program can qualify for a tax exemption for the donor. That exemption is based upon the fair market value of the vehicle at the time of donation and is determined by the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) / j.d.power.com website. ( Consult your tax adviser for details ) We’ll partner with you to find a new home for your gently used vehicle with a family unable to afford one. Think about what God can do, working through you and your generosity, to share the love of Christ with a family in our community.
